The Story
Who's behind Smart Scope?

Skip Stringfield, founder and CEO, and the team at Smart Scope — the same people behind Smart Service. We've spent more than three decades building software for contractors, since long before apps were a thing. Smart Scope is what that experience looks like rebuilt for a phone, with AI doing the paperwork.

Why build another estimating app?

Because the same person kept getting skipped every time: the owner-operator. Too big for a notepad, too small for the enterprise suites — and every "solution" assumed an office manager he doesn't have. Smart Scope is one app, on his phone, with his price book and his margins. Walk the job, talk the scope, send the bid.

What is Smart Scope, in one sentence?

An AI-powered estimating app for field service pros: describe the job in your own words and it becomes a priced, line-item, signable estimate — built from your rates, with your margin visible before you hit send.

Where are you located?

495 Metro Place South, Suite 280, Dublin, Ohio 43017. A real office in central Ohio, not a P.O. box — and when you email hello@trysmartscope.com, the reply comes from a person who works here.

What's the connection to Smart Service?

Same company, same team. Smart Service has been field service management software for decades, and Smart Scope grew out of everything contractors taught us along the way. The two work together, too — scopes can push into Smart Service, and EyesOn live visits land on the Command OPS board inside it.

From clipboards to Claude.

The Smart Scope team has been building software for contractors since 1992 — starting back when "field service software" meant a desktop in the office and a clipboard in the truck. Smart Service, our flagship, has scheduled and dispatched work for service companies across the country for decades. Tens of thousands of routes, work orders, and invoices taught us one thing over and over: the tools always got built for the office, and the person standing in the driveway got left out.

Smart Scope is our answer to that. When AI made it possible to turn a voice note and a few photos into a priced, professional estimate, we didn't bolt it onto the office software — we built a new app around the person doing the estimating. Your price book, your margins, your customer in front of you, and the paperwork done before you're back in the truck.

It's built in Dublin, Ohio, by the same team — and it talks to Smart Service, so the field and the office finally share one brain.

What we believe.

Built for the owner-operator

The person doing the estimating deserves tools as good as the enterprise gets — without needing an office manager to run them.

Your data is yours

Private to your account, exportable any day, never sold, never pooled, never used to train AI. If you leave, it leaves with you.
